going home

Two weeks ago, we packed a few bags (and our running shoes!) and drove from our home in Reykjavík all the way up north to Lake Mývatn, where my parents and siblings live and where I was raised. My family lives in a house which is called Björk like the singer - can you imagine how many tourist stop by it's sign every year for a photo? My grandparents built it in 1958-9 and moved in in 1960, when my father was only 3 years old. It is very dear to me and I am always glad to be able to spend a few nights there. The purpose of this trip was to run a half marathon in the annual Mývatn Lake Marathon. That went very well and I finished in 2:10:55 which is pretty good considering I have a 9 month old baby and only began training in February. But running is not all we did. The weather was perfect, sunny and warm with the dandelions blooming, hens running around and new calves and lambs just born (don't get me started on the pain I feel for the cow mothers and calves that are separated so soon after the birth... I would do it differently if they were mine!). My parents don't keep any animals, but their neighbors do so that's how we got the chance to check out these furry friends. Úlfur LOVES visiting my family and if it were up to him he'd much rather want to live there than here in Reykjavík. He played outside almost the whole time, and spent a lot of time with my younger brothers (last photo). I also got to hang out with my sister who just got home from months of travelling in Europe. Can you tell how happy we are to be reunited? At the end of next week I'll be taking the kids there again to stay for almost two weeks. We are all so very excited.

Until next time! Thanks for all your visits and comments, it can really brighten my day :)
